Yes, the public & politicians do not like ‘promiscuous’, ‘whore’ etc…maybe stop using them? (Draft #1)

(A comment still ‘awaiting moderation’, under a Blog piece featuring a 2016 joke by Dr Mark Taylor FRCPsych: that he is ‘promiscuous’ with Pharma. https://truthman30.wordpress.com/2018/09/30/to-wendy-burn-samei-huda-neil-mcfarlane-and-the-other-psychiatrists-on-twitter-watch-this-and-weep/ )

Yes Truthman 30, this is a good point about use of ‘promiscuous’. In current wider UK discourse you will find little or no use of ‘promiscuous’ because (I think) historically it has been used to pathologise women. Search for ‘sex’ here: https://recoveryinthebin.org/2016/02/20/a-simple-guide-to-avoid-receiving-a-diagnosis-of-personality-disorder/

Therefore, I suggest, ‘promiscuous’ is to be avoided if we want to take our questions and requests to the politicians. Consider how the critics of the PACE trial have managed to get Carol Monaghan MP to investigate ME/CFS, which looks quite likely to result in a formal parliamentary enquiry, and conceivably a judge-led public enquiry: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-44568847

PACE/MECFS is relevant to prescribed harm because a major aspect of PACE criticism is essentially about how psychiatrists such as Simon Wessely and Michael Sharpe have used tame journalists and the Science Media Centre (London) to promote their views and smear campaigners.

I have recently argued that Dr Sharpe’s criticism of Carol Monaghan MP as ‘not becoming’ was itself misogynistic (see last paragraph): https://drnmblog.wordpress.com/2018/09/06/complaint-to-maudsley-hospital-governors-chief-executive-dr-matthew-patrick-mrcpsychs-failure-to-fully-deal-with-upheld-complaints-of-misogynistic-abuse-against-consultant-psychiatrist-dr-paul-mo/

Coming back to the point of your piece: yes, if the RCPSych leadership bring up ‘misogyny’ again we can legitimately ask ‘what about Dr Taylor’s use of ‘promiscuous”? But I am interested in engaging the wider public and politicians on these issues, not just scoring points.
